Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park still closed Oct. 26 due to snow; park says warmer weather coming this week

Estes Park, Larimer County, Colorado — Trail Ridge Road, Rocky Mountain National Park's most popular scenic drive, remained closed as of the morning of Oct. 26 due to snow and low visibility. The park said the road closed at 5 p.m. on Oct. 23, with the closed section running from Many Parks Curve on the east side to the Colorado River Trailhead on the west, while the park continued to see light snow, mixed precipitation and freezing temperatures. The park reminded visitors to call its road-condition line for the latest information before traveling; arrangements for other park roads follow park notices.
Trail Ridge Road is the park's signature scenic drive, open each summer; it opened this season on May 29 and usually closes for the season after fall snows. The park said forecasts show warmer, drier weather arriving starting later on Oct. 26 and lasting through the week, but that does not mean the road will reopen immediately; any reopening depends on further assessment of road and weather conditions. The park earlier this month closed Old Fall River Road to vehicles; visitors planning trips should note seasonal closures to avoid wasted journeys.
