Century-old Millsboro theater to reopen: Milton Theatre team takes over, targeting 2027 opening

Millsboro, Sussex County, Delaware — The town of Millsboro released a promotional video on Oct. 26 announcing that the historic Millstone Theatre downtown (formerly the Ball Theatre) has been acquired by the team behind the Milton Theatre and will be restored and reopened in 2027. The theater, at 214 Main Street, has sat vacant for years. Fred Munzert of PCA Productions, the acquiring team, said they will restore the venue fully and reopen it as soon as possible, with a vision of a vibrant, diverse live-entertainment home for the whole region where everyone can find a show for them.
Millsboro Mayor Bob McKee said in a statement that the town already has restaurants and retail but has lacked a true anchor, and that a theater is exactly the key to driving downtown redevelopment. He said that after seeing the Milton Theatre's success and enormous economic impact, he immediately recognized the venue's potential. The Ball Theatre opened in 1937 with 478 seats, a balcony, a concession stand and a live-performance stage. It closed in 1971 and was bought in 2016 by the current owners. The Milton Theatre's success is seen as the model for Millsboro to replicate the cultural-anchor formula; a detailed restoration timetable and opening lineup have not been announced.
