Four North Country Buildings Named to New Hampshire Preservation Alliance's 2026 "Seven to Save" List

Monday, October 26, 2026 · States · GSM News

Four historic buildings north of the Notch have been named to the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance's 2026 "Seven to Save" list, a rare showing for the state's North Country: Bethlehem Town Hall, Lisbon Town Hall and Opera House, the First Congregational Church in Haverhill, and the Great North Woods Center for the Arts in Columbia.

The annual designation, now in its 20th year, draws attention to historic landmarks in New Hampshire that are aging, threatened and in need of serious repairs or renovations, but may face funding challenges. Once a structure is listed, it can open up funding and grant opportunities. Each year the alliance receives many nominations and must winnow them down to seven.

The four selections — two town halls, a church and an arts center — are anchors of civic and cultural life in their communities. The Preservation Alliance hopes the listing will spur towns, owners and supporters to raise the money needed to stabilize and restore the buildings before deterioration forces harder choices.
