G20 Foreign Ministers to Meet in Atlanta Oct. 30-31: Rubio to Host, With Quad Meeting on the Sidelines

The U.S. Department of State has announced that the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 30-31, hosted by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, bringing together foreign ministers from the world's leading economies to discuss global economic challenges, energy security, technological innovation and international cooperation. The United States holds the G20 presidency in 2026, and the ministerial is a key step toward December's leaders' summit.
The State Department said the meeting will advance the G20's core mission of promoting global stability and prosperity, with a focus on strengthening international cooperation, addressing global economic challenges, supporting open markets and building resilient supply chains. The U.S. presidency's stated priorities include affordable and secure energy supplies and technology-led growth. The department said Atlanta was chosen as a center of diplomacy, business and global connectivity.
In an October 26 media note on the trip, the State Department said the ministers will also take up freedom of navigation and food security, and that the discussions will set the stage for the leaders' summit hosted by President Trump. Asked by reporters in India last week, Secretary Rubio said Russia has been invited to take part in the G20 and will be represented at its meetings; he said Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov might attend in Atlanta and President Vladimir Putin could attend the Miami summit, though Washington has not received confirmation.
On the sidelines, the foreign ministers of the United States, India, Japan and Australia will also hold a Quad foreign ministers' meeting — their second of 2026, following a meeting hosted by India in May. Indian media reported that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has confirmed he will attend both gatherings; the four ministers are expected to outline the agenda for the next Quad leaders' summit, planned for Manila in November alongside ASEAN-related meetings, which would be the first gathering of Quad leaders in two years, since September 2024.
After the ministerial, the G20 Leaders' Summit is scheduled for December 14-15 at Trump National Doral in Miami, Florida, hosted by President Trump and coinciding with the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. G20 members together account for about 85 percent of global GDP and nearly two-thirds of the world's population.
