Follow-Up: Thunder Confirm Jalen Williams Has a Fractured Fibula and Dislocated Left Ankle, Surgery Planned and No Timeline Yet

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma — Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti told a news conference at Paycom Center on Oct. 26 that All-Star forward Jalen Williams, who was carried off on a stretcher during the Oct. 25 game against the LA Clippers, has a fractured fibula and a dislocated left ankle. Williams will undergo surgery and is out indefinitely; Presti said a recovery timeline will not be released until after the procedure, and Williams is expected to miss several months, if not the rest of the season. Guard Cason Wallace, hurt in the same game, has a torn labrum in his left shoulder and will also undergo surgery and be sidelined indefinitely.
Williams was injured with 1:14 left in the fourth quarter of the Thunder's 108-101 home win over the Clippers on Oct. 25. Fouled by Clippers guard Kris Dunn on a drive to the basket, he landed awkwardly and his left foot rolled under his leg. A team staffer covered his lower leg with a towel as medical personnel rushed in, play stopped for about five minutes, and the crowd stood and chanted his nickname, 'JDub,' as he was wheeled off giving two thumbs up. GSM reported the game and his stretcher exit on Oct. 25, when the team's injury report listed only a 'left lower leg injury' and no formal diagnosis had been released.
Presti said the injury is one more often associated with contact sports such as football. 'He's as tough as they come. He's an elite competitor,' Presti said. 'Even last night, just miraculous in terms of his outlook in the way he's looking forward to attacking this. And, you know, we're going to be with him the entire way.' Presti added that 'things could have been a lot worse,' and recalled Williams battling multiple injuries last season and Chet Holmgren losing his rookie season to a foot injury.
Wallace was hurt in the first quarter of the same game while fighting over a screen and was initially listed with shoulder soreness. One of the league's premier perimeter defenders, he signed a five-year, $139 million rookie-scale extension before the season. Williams is in the first season of a five-year, $240 million extension and entered Sunday having averaged 18 points over his first 250 regular-season games. He was vital to the Thunder's 2025 championship run, made the All-NBA third team and the All-Defensive second team for 2024-25, and was limited to 33 regular-season games last season by two wrist surgeries and multiple hamstring strains. 'I just feel bad for him,' Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said, fighting tears, after Sunday's game. 'We just got to hold the fort down until he comes back.' Head coach Mark Daigneault said the locker room was 'not doing great' and thanked fans for chanting Williams' name. (Reported by ESPN and USA Today)
