India's meteorological department said on October 26 that Cyclone Arnab remained over the Bay of Bengal at midday and is expected to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm on October 27, making landfall on the forenoon of October 28 between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, close to Yanam, with winds of 115-125 kph gusting to 140 kph. Bangladesh's meteorological department issued maritime warnings the same day: at noon the cyclone was about 840 km southwest of Chattogram, with winds near 62 kph gusting to 88 kph, and distant warning signal No. 2 was hoisted at Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra ports. Heavy rain and storm surge are expected along both coasts, and fishing boats have been advised to stay close to shore or return to harbor.
