Secretary of State Marco Rubio Congratulates Austria on Its National Day, Calling It an Important Partner in Europe

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a written statement on October 26 congratulating the people of Austria on their National Day, on behalf of the United States of America. Austria's National Day, October 26, marks the restoration of the country's full sovereignty in 1955 following the Austrian State Treaty.
In the statement, Rubio said the United States and Austria share a long-standing relationship based on shared history, a commitment to freedom and sovereignty, and close ties between their citizens, and that Austria is an important partner in Europe, with commercial ties central to the relationship. Trade and investment between the two countries continue to grow and support workers and businesses in both nations, he said, and American and Austrian firms work together in energy, advanced technology, research and innovation. The United States wished the people of Austria a successful year ahead and said it looks forward to expanding cooperation to bring greater security and prosperity to their citizens.
The statement follows an active stretch in the relationship: on October 19, the two countries held a Strategic Dialogue in Washington on bilateral and regional issues.
