Follow-Up: VA Federal EHR Goes Live in Cleveland and Anchorage: All 13 Hospitals for 2026 Complete, Over 780,000 Veterans Now on the System

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced in Washington on October 26 that the Federal Electronic Health Record system went live on Saturday, October 24, at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, and the Alaska VA Healthcare System in Anchorage, Alaska, with 16 standalone clinics in the two states also switching over, completing VA's goal of deploying the system at 13 hospitals in 2026.
VA said the latest rollout covers more than 163,000 Veterans and 7,800 clinicians and staff. More than 780,000 Veterans and 42,000 VA clinicians and staff are now using the new system. The 2026 deployments came in waves: Michigan hospitals in April, southern Ohio and Kentucky in June, and three Indiana hospitals in August.
The system enables the seamless transfer of military health records among VA, the Department of War and other federal partners, and integrates health information from private-sector facilities into VA care. VA said appointments let doctors and nurses spend more time with patients, duplicative testing falls because prior results are accessible, facilities can share best practices, and continuity of care improves when Veterans transfer or need emergency care at a facility they have never visited.
VA Deputy Secretary Paul Lawrence, the department's lead official on the rollout, said VA has fulfilled its goal of deploying the new system to 13 hospitals in 2026, a stark turnaround from the nearly two-year delay seen under the prior administration. The work lays the groundwork for deployments at 26 hospitals in 2027 and for putting the electronic record in every VA facility by 2031. Lawrence visited all 13 deployment sites this year.
Under VA's plan, 2027 begins in January with four hospitals in Wisconsin and Michigan: the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, the Tomah VA Medical Center, the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans' Hospital in Madison, and the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Facility in Iron Mountain.
