Raiders Head Coach Confirms on October 26 That Cousins Remains the Starting Quarterback
In Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada, Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak confirmed to reporters on October 26 that Kirk Cousins remains the team's starting quarterback and that there is no controversy. The statement came less than a day after the Raiders' October 25 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, the team's fourth straight defeat. In his postgame remarks the day before, Kubiak had said the team was considering everything, fueling speculation about turning to Fernando Mendoza, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. On October 26 Kubiak made clear that Mendoza will play eventually, but not this week; there is a plan for him but no timeline. Cousins is the leader of the team, he said — the player who touches the ball on every play — and the team needs the whole roster to be clear about the direction.
