New York Governor's Race Draws Police Endorsements on Both Sides on October 26: Hochul and Blakeman Each Backed by Police Groups

Monday, October 26, 2026 · States · GSM News

On October 26 in New York, one week before the November 3 midterm elections, police endorsements in the New York governor's race split between the two candidates. The New York State Police Benevolent Association endorsed incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul for re-election, citing her nearly $4 billion in public safety investment, a 10 percent drop in index crime and a 60 percent decline in shooting deaths. The same day, Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman, the Nassau County executive, also announced endorsements from police organizations, accusing Hochul's policies of making communities less safe and warning that unless state leaders curb the influence of New York City Mayor Mamdani and his left-wing policies, a crisis is at hand. Polls show Hochul leading Blakeman by about 55 percent to 41 percent, a margin of roughly 14 percentage points.
