AUSTIN, Texas — Governor Greg Abbott announced on October 16 that the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded two Skills Development Fund (SDF) grants totaling $462,352 to Tarrant County College and local partners, training 164 workers for high-demand jobs.

The two grants include $282,392 to train 104 workers at DrinkPAK II LLC as batching technicians, electro-mechanical technicians, forklift drivers and packaging technicians, and $179,960 to train 60 workers at GEV Wind Power US LLC as composite repair technicians.

"Today's investment prepares Texans for the high-demand jobs that drive our state's economy," said Governor Abbott. "These grants will train 164 workers for high-pay occupations to meet industry needs and strengthen the Texas workforce pipeline." TWC Chairman Joe Esparza, who presented the award at a ceremony at Tarrant County College South Campus, added: "The long-term strength of our workforce depends on partnerships between education and industry. These Skills Development Fund grants will allow Tarrant County College to provide specialized, hands-on training that supports regional industries and prepares Texans for high-growth occupations."

The SDF is the state's workforce training grant program, partnering with public community and technical colleges, workforce development boards and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service. Since its inception in 1996, the program has partnered with more than 5,000 employers to upgrade or support the creation of over 446,000 jobs across Texas.
