Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada — On the evening of October 26, Intermountain Health broke ground on the Felicia and Ben Horowitz Children's Hospital, Nevada's first stand-alone children's hospital, marking a new stage in the community-wide effort to strengthen pediatric care in the state. The groundbreaking featured a colorful light display, play tractors for children and an artist-created sandcastle rendering of the hospital. Families shared their personal journeys and hopes for the new hospital, keeping children at the heart of the celebration. Mitch Cloward, Intermountain Health region president, said he wants the children's hospital to "serve as a beacon for what's possible" and change the trajectory of children's health across the state. Russ Williams, president of the children's hospital, said the hospital is one important piece of a bigger vision and that by bringing healthcare, community and philanthropic partners together around children and families, there is an opportunity to close gaps in care and build a stronger future for every child in Nevada.

Plans call for a 33-acre campus and an approximately 828,600-square-foot hospital, with an initial 180-bed inpatient tower that can expand to 228 beds, housing neonatal care, pediatric and cardiac intensive care, emergency and trauma care, orthopedics, cancer and bone marrow transplant services, behavioral health, and advanced medical and surgical care. The hospital, expected to open in 2030, is part of a broader effort to expand pediatric expertise and bring healthcare, community and philanthropic partners together around the needs of children and families. The associated Nevada Campaign for Kids recently received a $150 million commitment from Felicia and Ben Horowitz, one of the largest gifts to a children's hospital in the nation.
