Follow-Up: Oregon Ducks Quarterback Dante Moore, in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, Not Medically Cleared After Concussion; Head Coach Announces He Is Expected to Miss Rest of Season
Eugene, Lane County, Oregon — According to a Reuters report on October 27, University of Oregon football head coach Dan Lanning announced on Monday, October 26, that quarterback Dante Moore is expected to miss the rest of the season because of a concussion. Moore was injured in the second quarter of the September 26 game against the University of Southern California, when a late hit by linebacker Desman Stephens II knocked him down; he was taken by ambulance to Los Angeles General Medical Center. His MRI and CT scans came back clean, but he did sustain a concussion and has not been medically cleared to return. Before the injury, Moore had opened the season impressively, throwing for 926 yards and nine touchdowns with no interceptions and a 69.7% completion rate, and he was a preseason Heisman Trophy contender; projected as a top prospect for the 2026 NFL Draft, he had chosen to return for his senior season. During Moore's absence, the Ducks have gone 1-2 and scored fewer than 20 points in each game; backup quarterbacks Brock Thomas and Dylan Raiola have shared starting duties but have been unable to replicate Moore's performance. The Ducks' offensive struggles also led to the firing of offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer on Sunday, October 25, after a 21-10 loss to Illinois, and on the evening of October 26 Lanning announced that offensive analyst and quarterbacks coach Jay Johnson would take over playcalling duties.
