Montpelier, Washington County, Vermont — Governor Phil Scott, together with the Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets and the Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation, announced on October 26 that the Vermont Agriculture and Timber Disaster Assistance Program has begun accepting online applications, with a total of $31.7 million. In this first of the program's two phases, eligible applicants can receive assistance equal to 95% of eligible losses, up to a maximum of $75,000. The program is open to Vermont agricultural producers, timber landowners and contracted loggers who suffered losses from qualifying weather events in 2023 or 2024, and is funded by a federal block grant authorized under the American Relief Act of 2025. Governor Scott said that while the money will not make businesses whole, it will be a helpful tool for businesses working to keep operating and make ends meet. Agriculture Secretary Anson Tebbetts said recovery can take years and that the assistance will help businesses make repairs, restore their operations and move forward. Eligible agricultural losses may include damage to farm infrastructure, bare-ground practices, future economic loss and market loss, while the timber component includes standing timber losses, harvested timber losses, licensed forester assessment costs and forest stewardship plan update costs.
