Public Comment Sought on Wyoming's $12.9 Million WE Soda Natural Gas Upgrade Project: Westvaco Plant in Sweetwater County, Comments Open Through November 16

Cheyenne, Laramie County, Wyoming, October 26 — The Wyoming Business Council announced that a $12.9 million cost-sharing award for WE Soda's Westvaco natural gas upgrade project is open for public comment. The Wyoming Energy Dominance Fund review committee recommended approval of the state funding last week, and the 30-day public comment period runs from October 15 to November 16. The other two projects open for comment in the same period are a $20 million project for Nucleon Fuel's Fort Union uranium conversion facility and a $15 million project for Williams' Flat Top compressor station. According to WE Soda's application, the project will support large-scale soda ash production and future growth at its Westvaco facility, including a new high-pressure natural gas connection line from the Williams MountainWest Overthrust Pipeline and receiving and distribution facilities at the plant. The project is intended to provide enough natural gas to support full natural gas operation of the existing boilers and to meet future expansion needs, while reducing the company's reliance on local coal — WE Soda says economically recoverable local coal is expected to be depleted by the end of 2027. The project is also expected to bring additional employment and economic development to Sweetwater County. Members of the public may submit comments through the channels published by the Business Council.
