Florida's East Coast Faces Gusty Winds and King Tides on October 27, With Coastal Flood Warnings and Dangerous Rip Currents in Effect

Tuesday, October 27, 2026 · States · GSM News

Daytona Beach, Volusia County, Florida — On October 27, strong northeast winds combined with king tides continued to affect Florida's east coast, where the National Weather Service maintained coastal flood warnings, wind advisories, high surf advisories and rip current statements for many areas. The Weather Service said persistent onshore winds combined with high astronomical tides around the full moon would bring moderate to locally major flooding around high tide, with road flooding possible at each high tide in parts of South Florida. Along the beaches, breaking waves could reach 7 to 11 feet around Volusia County and 8 to 13 feet around Palm Beach County, with life-threatening rip currents and rough surf continuing.

The National Hurricane Center forecast on October 27 that no new tropical cyclone activity was expected over the next seven days, but effects from the offshore low would persist, and residents and visitors should stay away from dangerous surf and not drive through flooded roads. As of 10 a.m. on October 26, about 9.78 million people statewide were under a wind advisory, about 4.23 million under a coastal flood warning and about 3.62 million under a rip current statement. The coastal flood warning and high surf advisory for Volusia and neighboring counties have been extended until 2 a.m. on October 30; for other areas, the latest National Weather Service issuances govern.
