Honolulu, City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii — Hawaiian Airlines began construction in October on a new premium lounge at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, according to news reported on October 27. Located at the entrance to the airport's Mauka Concourse, the lounge will span nearly 13,000 square feet, welcome about 200 guests, and is scheduled to open in the first half of 2028. The airline says it will feature locally inspired food and beverages, a signature coffee experience, a full-service bar, private workspaces and artwork by Hawaii artists, in a design celebrating Hawaii's culture and natural beauty. A traditional Hawaiian blessing marked the start of construction. The project is part of Alaska Air Group's Kahu'ewai Hawaii Investment Plan, which commits more than $600 million to improve travel to, from and within the islands, including airport modernization, technology upgrades and Hawaiian Airlines aircraft interior retrofits. Together with a new Seattle lounge advancing at the same time, the group says the lounges will set a new standard of preflight comfort at its two international hubs. The exact opening date and eligibility rules will be announced by the airline.
