Rhode Island: 19-Year-Old Dies After Altercation in Coventry; Police and Attorney General's Office Investigating Jointly
Coventry, Kent County, Rhode Island — Coventry police said on October 27 that Nicholas Bennett, 19, died after an altercation on the evening of October 26 and that the case is under investigation. Police responded at 10:18 p.m. on October 26 to 12 Anthony Street after a report that a man may have been stabbed with a sharp-edged weapon behind the residence. Officers found Bennett and immediately began CPR before Coventry Fire/Rescue took over and brought him to Kent Hospital, where he later died of his injuries. Coventry police detectives are investigating jointly with the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office and the Office of State Medical Examiners. Police said there is no threat to the public and offered condolences to Bennett's family. As of the information released on October 27, police have not said whether anyone has been arrested, what started the altercation or the specific nature of Bennett's injuries; the investigation is ongoing and police say they will release further information when available.
