Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina — Governor Henry McMaster announced on October 27 the appointment of 25 new members to the Governor's Conservation Commission, which will advise on conservation strategies and work with agencies across the state. The appointees come from the private sector and academia and will serve alongside ex officio members including South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Director Tom Mullikin, Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Duane Parrish, Chief Resilience Officer Ben Duncan and State Forester Scott Phillips. Its duties include advising the governor and the executive branch on conservation and preservation strategies, promoting coordination among state and local agencies, assisting local governments in developing conservation goals, raising public awareness of South Carolina's history and culture, identifying funding sources, and encouraging partnerships among public agencies, private organizations, academic institutions and nonprofits.
