University of Wyoming Redshirt Freshman Linebacker Perez Named Mountain West Freshman of the Week on October 27; Career-High 17 Tackles a Recent Program Best
Laramie, Albany County, Wyoming — University of Wyoming redshirt freshman linebacker Steven Perez was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Freshman of the Week on October 27, honoring his performance in the Cowboys' win over Air Force. It is the third straight week a Wyoming player has earned a weekly conference honor. On Friday night Perez posted a career-high 17 total tackles, eight in the first half and nine in the second, and recovered a fourth-quarter fumble to help seal the victory; it is the highest single-game tackle total by a Wyoming defender since current NFL linebacker Chad Muma recorded 17 against Utah State in 2021. Through this point in the season, Perez ranks second on the team with 54 total tackles and second with 5.5 tackles for loss, along with 1.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. Conference weekly honors are selected each week; Perez's next game is as scheduled by the University of Wyoming athletics department.
