Washington, District of Columbia — The 39th annual 17th Street High Heel Race will be held on the night of October 27, a pre-Halloween tradition celebrating the District's LGBTQ+ diversity that dates back to the 1980s.

According to FOX 5's report on October 27, the race starts at 9 p.m. along 17th Street between R Street and Church Street. For the event, emergency no-parking restrictions on the affected blocks begin at noon that day, and street closures to vehicle traffic take effect at 2 p.m. and last until 11 p.m.; one additional street may be intermittently closed between about 2 p.m. and 11 p.m. for public safety reasons.

Organizers and police advise drivers to check the full list of closures and parking restrictions in advance, follow on-site directions during the race, and use the D.C. police traffic channel for real-time updates. The High Heel Race is one of the 17th Street neighborhood's signature street events each year before Halloween, with costumed participants racing down the street in high heels before large crowds of residents and visitors. Organizers ask spectators to arrive early and follow on-site order, and drivers to detour around the race route. Specific closures are subject to the list published by FOX 5 and police announcements on the day.
