Bears Release Cornerback Nick McCloud and Sign Running Back Xavier Scott to Bolster Special Teams

Chicago, Cook County, Illinois — The Chicago Bears made roster moves on Tuesday, October 27: releasing veteran cornerback Nick McCloud and signing running back Xavier Scott from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
McCloud had appeared in only two games for the Bears this season, recording one fumble recovery. It was his second stint with the Bears; he has also played for the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants, among other teams, and has totaled 63 career games and 123 tackles.
Scott had already played in the Bears' last three games through practice-squad elevations, all on special teams, contributing five tackles and one forced fumble. Because his practice-squad elevations were exhausted, the team had to sign him to the active roster to keep using him, which was the direct reason for the move. Signing Scott also adds depth at running back and on special teams.
The Bears are 5-2 and in the thick of the race for the NFC North lead; after the October 27 moves, both their special teams and running back rotation have firmer depth. Further roster changes are subject to the team's official transaction announcements.
