San Francisco, San Francisco County, California — The San Francisco 49ers reached a trade agreement with the Indianapolis Colts on October 27 to bring back three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, pending a physical.

According to NBC Sports Bay Area's October 27 report, the 49ers sent a 2027 fourth-round draft pick to acquire Buckner. Buckner, 32, was selected by the 49ers with the seventh overall pick in the 2016 draft, earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2018 during his first four seasons in San Francisco, and was traded to Indianapolis in 2020 for a first-round pick that later became defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw.

In seven games with the Colts this season, Buckner recorded 31 combined tackles, including 11 solo and 20 assisted, along with four tackles for loss, eight quarterback hits, three passes defended, one fumble recovery and four sacks. He signed a two-year, $46 million extension with the Colts in April 2024, carries a $7.9 million salary cap hit this season, and is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

The 49ers are on their bye week, giving Buckner an extra week to prepare for his first game back.
