Sacramento Kings Exercise Third-Year Option on Nique Clifford, Keeping Young Wing Under Contract Through 2027-28

Sacramento, Sacramento County, California — The Sacramento Kings have exercised the third-year team option on second-year wing Nique Clifford's contract, a decision the team announced on its official account on Oct. 26. Clifford will remain with the Kings through the 2027-28 season, when his guaranteed salary is $3.42 million.

Clifford, who is about to turn 25, was the No. 24 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. He appeared in 75 games as a rookie, starting 28, and is viewed as an important part of the Kings' rotation this season. The decision comes as the Kings have struggled early in the season and are dealing with injuries, with LaVine, Keegan Murray, Raynaud and Cardwell among those currently unavailable. Exercising the option does not guarantee Clifford a starting role, but it signals that the front office values his long-term potential and wants to keep evaluating his development under his current contract.

The Kings visit the San Antonio Spurs on the night of Oct 27 and then travel to face the New Orleans Pelicans on Oct. 29, hoping to turn their fortunes around on the road.
