Portland Proposes Raising Event Parking Near Moda Center to $8 an Hour; City Council Votes Oct. 29

Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon — Portland's transportation bureau has proposed raising event parking rates on some streets around the Moda Center from $5.40 to $8 an hour during major events, and the city council is expected to vote on the plan on Thursday, Oct. 29, The Portland Focal reported on Oct. 27.
The proposal covers parts of the Eliot neighborhood north of the Moda Center: when an event is expected to draw at least 10,000 people, event rates would apply in the affected blocks, making three hours of parking cost $24 instead of the current $16.20. Drivers with Zone V parking permits would not be affected. The city says higher event rates are intended to reduce outside vehicles taking up residential streets and to preserve spaces for residents and local businesses.
Separately, about 11 percent of curb spaces in the Central Eastside would be repurposed: some would become metered spaces, others reserved for disabled drivers and employees with work permits, and visitors in permit spaces could stay for up to two hours. Metered parking in that district generally costs $2.20 an hour and is enforced Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The city says the changes would roll out in November and December, subject to the council vote and the transportation bureau's final announcement.
