FORT MADISON, Lee County, Iowa — USDA Rural Development announced on October 27 that Lee County will receive three Community Facilities grants for the Meller Family Health Center in Fort Madison: $2.159 million to build the center, $974,000 for construction, and $25,000 for a rapid-response vehicle for the county emergency medical service — $3.158 million in total.

Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Glen R. Smith and US Representative Miller-Meeks toured the center on October 27. The center houses the Lee County health department and Lee County EMS, bringing public health and emergency services together in one facility once complete.

USDA Rural Development's Community Facilities program funds clinics, fire stations and similar public facilities in rural communities. Lee County sits in Iowa's southeast corner, and Fort Madison is the county seat.
