North Carolina: 200-Gallon Illegal Moonshine Still Seized in Wilkes County; 69-Year-Old Man Arrested on Six Charges
WILKES COUNTY, North Carolina — North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) announced on October 27 that agents investigating an explosion and fire on October 26 uncovered an operating illegal distillery with a 200-gallon still, seizing about 1,800 gallons of mash and 161 gallons of untaxed moonshine.
Billy Ray Anderson, 69, of North Wilkesboro, was arrested and faces six charges, including manufacturing, possessing for sale and possessing untaxed liquor, possessing distillation equipment and ingredients, and allowing his property to be used for manufacturing liquor. The investigation is ongoing.
