TRENTON, New Jersey — New Jersey Assembly bill A5452, the Protecting Against Microplastics Act, was introduced on September 14 by Assemblymembers Shama A. Haider (District 37, Bergen County) and Margie Donlon (District 11, Monmouth County).
The bill would appropriate $3 million in total: $2.5 million to the Department of Environmental Protection and $500,000 to the Department of Law and Public Safety for microplastics monitoring and mitigation. It would also require labeling disclosures after two years and ban the sale of cleaning, cosmetic, food-contact and ingestible products containing intentionally added microplastics. The bill remains in the legislative process.
