New Mexico Poll Commissioned by Advocacy Group Public Power New Mexico: Two-Thirds of Voters Oppose Blackstone's PNM Acquisition

Tuesday, October 27, 2026 · States · GSM News

SANTA FE, New Mexico — A poll commissioned and released by the advocacy organization Public Power New Mexico found that two-thirds of New Mexico voters oppose Blackstone's acquisition of PNM, the state's largest electric utility. The poll, reported by Santa Fe public radio station KSFR on October 27, drew comments from Santa Fe County Commissioner Camilla Bustamante and state Senator Harold Pope, who voiced concerns about the deal. Separately, the Santa Fe New Mexican reported that 82 percent of respondents expected the acquisition to hurt electricity rates.

The poll was released by an advocacy group rather than a neutral research institution, and its positioning should be noted. Blackstone's acquisition of PNM's parent, TXNM Energy, is valued at $11.5 billion, and the New Mexico Supreme Court has previously ruled that the transaction may proceed.
