Bangkok Lat Krabang Construction Site Killing: Chinese Employer Yang Jongsu Killed, Four Myanmar Workers Suspected and on the Run

BANGKOK, Thailand — A killing at a construction site dormitory in Bangkok's Lat Krabang district on the evening of October 27 left Yang Jongsu, a 39-year-old Chinese employer, dead and He Shisheng, a 49-year-old Chinese man, injured. Four Myanmar workers are suspected of carrying out the attack and fleeing, and police are hunting for them.
Lat Krabang police received the report at 8 p.m. on October 27 and went to a construction site enclosed by corrugated metal sheeting in Soi 15 off Pattana Chonnabot 3 Road, in the Khlong Song Ton Nun subdistrict of Lat Krabang. Officers found Yang lying on the ground inside the dormitory with blunt-force wounds to the head and face and bleeding from the mouth and nose; resuscitation attempts failed and he died at the scene. He Shisheng had head injuries and a stab wound to the back and was taken to Sirindhorn Hospital.
According to police and witnesses, the two men had gone to the dormitory at about 6:30 p.m. to hand out monthly wages to nearly 60 Myanmar workers, when Yang got into an argument with four of the workers over workmanship issues and over the four wanting to quit without advance notice, with their pay unsettled. Police say the four suspects, two married couples, allegedly beat Yang with a steel rebar about 60 centimeters long and used a knife, then fled with about 40,000 baht in cash, according to Thai media reports. The other workers did not take part in the attack.
Lat Krabang police said they recovered the suspected rebar, a folding knife and bloodstained banknotes in wage envelopes at the scene. The four suspects remain at large, and the allegations are subject to the police investigation and court findings.
