Follow-Up: Four Myanmar Suspects in Bangkok Lat Krabang Killing Surrender After Five-Hour Standoff in Sugarcane Field

Thursday, October 29, 2026 · World · GSM News

Four Myanmar suspects in the killing of a Chinese employer in Bangkok's Lat Krabang district have surrendered and been arrested, the Bangkok Post reported on October 29, with coverage also on Thailand's Channel 7. The four suspects, two couples (two men and two women), had fled to a sugarcane field of more than 100 rai (about 40 acres) beside Highway 331 in Phan Thong district, Chonburi province.

More than 100 police officers from Phan Thong and Lat Krabang, local officials and rescue volunteers surrounded the area and searched with thermal-imaging drones. After a standoff of more than five hours, the four walked out of the field, driven by hunger, and surrendered. They were arrested on warrants and handed over to Lat Krabang police for questioning.

The killing occurred on the evening of October 27 at a construction-site dormitory in Khlong Song Ton Nun subdistrict, Lat Krabang, where 39-year-old Chinese employer Yang Jongsu was killed and 49-year-old Chinese man He Shisheng was injured. According to police, at about 6:30 p.m. the two men were paying monthly wages to nearly 60 Myanmar workers when a dispute broke out over work quality, four workers wanting to quit without notice, and unsettled pay; the four allegedly struck the men with a roughly 60-centimeter steel bar and a knife and fled with about 40,000 baht. The suspects say pay had been unstable and that a quarrel over 40,000 baht in owed wages turned impulsive; one denies taking any money.

Both accounts are one-sided statements. No finding of guilt has been made against anyone, pending the police investigation and court proceedings. GSM will continue to follow the case.
