USDA to Invest $57.4 Million Expanding Meat Processing Capacity: 147 Awards Across 40 States Announced by Vance and Rollins

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on October 26 that Vice President JD Vance and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced meat and poultry processors in 40 states are expected to receive a combined $57,424,130 through the Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Program (MPPEP) — 147 tentative awards to expand processing capacity and create new markets for American producers, pending congressional allotment of funds.

USDA said the investment builds on President Trump's executive order "Promoting Fair Competition in Livestock Markets and Expanding Market Access for American Meat Producers," and is aimed at rebuilding the U.S. cattle herd, strengthening meat supply-chain resilience and encouraging competition in processing. Rollins said the funding helps processors expand capacity and local market opportunities as the department works to put American beef back on family tables.

The MPPEP is administered by USDA Rural Development's Rural Business-Cooperative Service. For-profit and nonprofit organizations, cooperatives, Tribes and state and local governments are eligible to apply, and awards go to independently and domestically owned processors. USDA said the program continues the administration's broader push to cut red tape and lower costs for farmers and ranchers.
