Minecraft Launches Natively on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27: Vibrant Visuals Included, Free Upgrade for Digital Switch Owners Through January 2027
Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2, the first native edition of Mojang Studios' game for Nintendo's new console, launched on October 27, with the digital version sold through the Nintendo eShop and a physical Game-Key Card edition at retail. The standard edition is priced at $29.99. Every version includes the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack with Vibrant Visuals, the game's official graphics upgrade, rather than running the original Switch release in compatibility mode.
Three digital editions are on sale. Alongside the standard edition, the Deluxe Collection adds three add-ons — Celebration Food, Rescue Dogs and Plenty O'Blocks — plus three exclusive Character Creator items and 700 Minecoins. The Ultimate Collection includes five add-ons, adding Decocraft and Weapons + Tools, five exclusive Character Creator items and 1,000 Minecoins. Mojang set out the line-up and the October 27 launch date in its official pre-order announcement on October 7.
Owners of the original Switch edition have a defined upgrade path. Players who own the digital version can upgrade to the digital Switch 2 standard edition for free in most territories until the end of January 2027; the exceptions are Japan, Taiwan and Thailand, where the upgrade costs 100 yen, 30 New Taiwan dollars and 25 baht respectively. Upgrades to the Deluxe and Ultimate collections are offered at discounted fees. Mojang says the offers are available only through the Nintendo eShop for a limited time, and owners of the physical Switch edition do not currently have an upgrade path.
Vibrant Visuals is the official visual upgrade for the Bedrock edition, adding enhanced lighting, atmospheric effects and reflections. Mojang notes that it is not available in some gameplay, including split-screen play and when using certain Marketplace worlds and content, and that Minecoins bought on a Nintendo device must be used within the Nintendo ecosystem.
