Fire at Terminal C Restaurant at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport Prompts Evacuation; No Injuries, Blaze Extinguished

A fire broke out on the afternoon of October 27 at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, Harris County, Texas. The blaze started at a restaurant in the north section of Terminal C; travelers in the immediate area were evacuated as a precaution, Houston Fire Department crews responded, and the fire was later extinguished. No injuries have been reported, and the cause remains under investigation.
According to the Houston Fire Department, the Houston Airport System and local news reports, the fire started at Ember, a Texas-style tavern in Terminal C North. Fire crews were dispatched at about 4:20 p.m. and sent multiple units to the terminal, where smoke could be seen rising above the building. Passengers near the restaurant were moved to other parts of the terminal, and the airport was not shut down as a whole.
United Airlines said the fire was not affecting its flights. George Bush Intercontinental is Houston's largest airport and a major United Airlines hub with heavy daily domestic and international traffic.
Neither the airport system nor the fire department has yet released the cause of the fire or an estimate of damage. GSM will follow official updates.
