Tuesday, October 27, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said its maritime units have seized multiple vessels in the U.S. Virgin Islands for allegedly failing to properly report their arrival into the territory, and reminded boaters that violations can bring significant fines and vessel forfeiture. CBP's San Juan Field Office, which has jurisdiction over Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, said vessels entering the territory are required by law to report their arrival to CBP. First violations carry $5,000 civil penalties, later offenses $10,000, and boats may also be subject to forfeiture. The agency urged boaters traveling in the area to learn and follow the reporting requirements.
