FEMA Announces More Than $896 Million in Disaster Recovery Funding Across Over 620 Projects

Tuesday, October 27, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced more than $896 million in federal funding for more than 620 projects and assistance programs that will help communities across the United States recover from past disasters, reduce future risk and strengthen critical infrastructure. FEMA summarized the funding, first announced on October 21, in its weekly bulletin released on October 27.

The largest share supports more than 530 Public Assistance projects for state, territorial and local governments and eligible private nonprofits. The awards help communities repair damaged facilities, restore essential services and cover eligible costs tied to prior disasters, including debris removal, emergency protective measures, fire suppression, road and bridge repairs, utility restoration, public building and park repairs, and management costs.

The announcement also includes Disaster Case Management and Crisis Counseling funding through FEMA's Individual Assistance program for South Carolina following Hurricane Helene, for Arizona following severe storms and flooding, and for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands following Super Typhoon Sinlaku.

More than 75 Hazard Mitigation Grant Program projects, representing over $90 million, will fund flood-prone property acquisitions, structure elevations, mitigation reconstruction, drainage and stormwater improvements, generators and emergency power systems, safe rooms, warning systems, wildfire risk reduction, utility and infrastructure upgrades and hazard mitigation planning. The projects span Arkansas, Florida, Guam, Hawaii, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

FEMA is also awarding more than $2.7 million for Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) projects in Iowa, New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., covering project scoping, engineering and design for transportation planning, water infrastructure improvements, hospital protection and tsunami and earthquake preparedness. The agency says investing in mitigation before the next disaster reduces future losses and lowers the long-term cost of disasters.

FEMA said the funding is being delivered under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, with a continued focus on projects that protect lives, safeguard property and deliver accountable results.
