Atlanta Mayor Dickens Delivers Final-Term Agenda Address Focused on Housing, Youth and Homelessness

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 · City · GSM News

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia, delivered his final-term agenda address on October 22, reviewing his administration's work on economic development, affordable housing, youth opportunity and homelessness, and setting out priorities for the remainder of his term. The mayor's office described the speech as Dickens's formal accounting to the city as his term enters its final stretch.

On housing, Dickens restated his administration's goal of building or preserving 20,000 affordable homes by 2030, saying the city will keep using city-owned land, tax incentives and Invest Atlanta financing tools to move projects forward, prioritizing new homes near transit corridors and job centers. On youth, the city will continue expanding summer youth employment and after-school programs, treating opportunity as a public safety strategy in its own right.

On homelessness, the city said it will stay on a housing-first path, connecting people sleeping outside directly to permanent housing with services rather than temporary shelter alone, and maintaining joint outreach with Fulton County and nonprofit partners. On economic development, the mayor's office cited Invest Atlanta's recent business recruitment results at the event and said small business support and corridor commercial revitalization will remain the economic focus through the end of the term.

Dickens said a city's progress is measured by whether residents can afford to live in it, whether young people have opportunity and whether streets feel safe, and he urged the City Council and the next administration to carry forward the housing and youth programs already under way so commitments survive the transition. Council committees will take up related funding and legislation in upcoming meetings.
