Miami Mayor Suarez Lays Out 'America's City of the Future' Agenda on Permitting, Taxes and Tech

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, in Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, laid out his governing agenda on October 22, positioning Miami as 'America's City of the Future' built on low taxes, digitized permitting and public safety, and continuing to court technology and finance firms. The mayor's office described the agenda as the continuation and closing summary of Suarez's long-standing platform.
On city efficiency, Suarez proposed moving more building and business permitting online to cut approval wait times so small businesses and residents are not held up by paperwork. On fiscal policy, he restated his commitment to no new taxes within the city budget, calling low taxes Miami's competitive edge over other big cities and a reason companies and talent keep choosing to move.
On industry, the city will keep focusing recruitment on technology, finance and digital-asset firms; Suarez has spent years pitching relocating founders with an open-door approach, and the mayor's office said the jobs and tax base from relocating companies are part of how the city funds police and infrastructure without raising taxes.
Suarez also said the costs of growth must be managed seriously: housing costs and traffic congestion are the pressures Miami residents feel most directly, and the city will keep advancing affordable housing and transportation projects within the agenda. The full agenda text and city data were released by the mayor's office, with items requiring legislation to be taken up by the City Commission in upcoming meetings.
