Atlanta-Area Brookhaven Proposes $45.6 Million 2027 Budget With Tax Rate Steady at 3.85 Mills; Hearings Set for Nov. 3 and 17

BROOKHAVEN, DeKalb County, Georgia — The City of Brookhaven has proposed a $45.6 million General Fund budget for 2027, a 6.7% increase over the adopted 2026 budget, while keeping its operating property-tax rate at 3.85 mills; the City Council will hold budget hearings on Nov. 3 and Nov. 17 and is scheduled to consider adoption after the Nov. 17 hearing.

The operating proposal funds employee compensation and benefits, public safety and 911 dispatch services. The city notes that the unchanged operating rate is part of the proposal and does not guarantee that every homeowner's total property-tax bill will stay the same.

A separate $6.2 million capital budget would put $2 million toward pavement management and continue work on sidewalks, accessibility improvements, the Windsor/Ashford Dunwoody Road roundabout and Phase II construction procurement and Phase III design for the Peachtree Creek Greenway. On Oct. 27 the council also approved $490,000 in design work for two drainage projects.

Both hearings begin at 6:30 p.m. at City Centre, 4001 Peachtree Road NE, with virtual participation available. Residents can send questions and recommendations to [email protected], and free printed copies of the city's 24-page Budget in Brief are available at city facilities.
