CHARLOTTE, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina — The Charlotte 49ers men's basketball team lost 89-82 in overtime to North Carolina in an exhibition game in Chapel Hill on October 27, after a technical foul for calling a timeout with none remaining erased Charlotte's one-point lead in the final seconds of regulation.

Charlotte led 78-77 with 16.9 seconds left when the timeout call drew the technical foul. UNC's Terrence Brown made one of two free throws to tie the game at 78 and force overtime. Brown finished with a game-high 27 points.

North Carolina outscored Charlotte 11-4 in the extra period, closing the game on a 9-0 run to win 89-82 at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill.

Reports differ on which Charlotte player called the extra timeout, so he is not named here.
