MBTA Extends Four Ferry Routes — East Boston, Lynn, Winthrop and Quincy — Through December 31: Governor Healey Says Winter Service Gives Riders More Options

BOSTON, Suffolk County, Massachusetts — The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) announced on October 28 that four seasonal ferry routes will keep running through December 31, 2026: the East Boston route with weekday and weekend service, and the Lynn, Winthrop and Quincy routes with weekday service.

'By extending ferry service into the winter, we're giving riders in East Boston, Lynn, Winthrop and Quincy more options to get where they need to go,' said Governor Maura Healey. Phillip Eng, the MBTA's general manager and interim secretary, said thousands of riders take the ferry and credited support from the Legislature for building out a ferry network connecting people to communities, work, play and the greater MBTA system.

Four other routes run year-round: weekday service on the Hingham/Rowes Wharf, Harbor Loop and Hingham/Hull routes, and weekday and weekend service on the Charlestown route. No ferries will run on Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's Day, and bad weather and unsafe sea conditions can disrupt service; schedules and real-time updates are available online and through the MBTA Go app.
