Florida Gov. DeSantis Awards $100 Million for Springs Restoration and Water Supply Across 45 Projects

CRYSTAL RIVER, Citrus County, Florida — Gov. Ron DeSantis announced in Crystal River on Oct. 28 that the state is awarding $100 million for 45 projects across Florida to restore the state's springs and expand water supply. The funding comes through the state's springs restoration and alternative water supply grant programs, with half going to 23 springs restoration projects and half to 22 alternative water supply projects, including $10 million for Tampa Bay Water and $12.6 million for seven communities in Polk County.

In the announcement from the governor's office, DeSantis said the strategic investments will build on the progress already made in protecting natural resources and improving water quality in communities, so that Florida can one day be left to God better than it was found.

Springs are a vital natural resource and drinking water source in Florida; restoration projects aim to cut pollution and restore flow and water quality, while alternative water supply projects help communities develop new sources and reduce reliance on traditional groundwater. The state said the projects span Citrus, Volusia, Polk, Hillsborough, Lee, Orange and other counties, and will benefit residents' water supply and the environment in those communities.
