BOSTON, Suffolk County, Massachusetts — The Boston Bruins announced on the morning of October 28 that chief executive officer Charlie Jacobs will become the team's governor, representing the club on the National Hockey League (NHL) Board of Governors, effective immediately.

Charlie Jacobs succeeds his father, Jeremy Jacobs, who has served as the Bruins' governor for 51 years and has owned and led the team since 1975.

Charlie Jacobs said it is a tremendous honor to serve as the Bruins' governor, that the team has been part of the family for 51 years, and that he hopes to carry forward his father's legacy of excellence and influence with the team and the league, with his father continuing as his mentor and advisor; he added that he looks forward to working with the Board of Governors' chair, vice chair, fellow governors and the league commissioner to keep growing the game. Jeremy Jacobs said he is very proud of his son's appointment, that Charlie is the team's day-to-day leader and public representative and had already served as alternate governor, making the transition a natural step in the succession plan, and that he has full confidence in him as the family continues to steward the team.
