Astros' Decade-Long Coach Jason Bell Joins Boston Red Sox Staff After Serving as Houston's Field Coordinator and Outfield Coach
HOUSTON, Harris County, Texas — The Houston Astros have lost another longtime member of their coaching staff: Jason Bell, the club's major league field coordinator and outfield coach over a ten-year tenure with the organization, is joining the Boston Red Sox major league coaching staff. The move was first reported by Astros beat writer Brian McTaggart, who wrote on social media that Bell served as the Astros' major league field coordinator and outfield coach last season and is leaving for Boston after ten years with the organization.
Bell joined the Astros as a development coach in 2017 and led the Tri-City ValleyCats to a league championship in 2018, then worked for years in the Astros' player development system before joining the major league staff in 2024 and serving as field coordinator and outfield coach in 2025 and 2026. He has also represented Puerto Rico and Israel in international competition.
After being swept by the Chicago White Sox in the 2026 postseason, the Astros parted ways with manager Joe Espada and six other coaches. Bell's departure marks a continuing reshaping of the staff as the club enters its offseason reorganization.
