Rhode Island College Breaks Ground on $73 Million Whipple Hall Renovation for Cybersecurity Institute

PROVIDENCE, Providence County, Rhode Island — Rhode Island College (RIC) held a groundbreaking ceremony on October 28 for the $73 million renovation of Whipple Hall, funded by a bond issue approved by voters in 2024.
Once renovated, Whipple Hall will be the permanent home of the college's Institute for Cybersecurity and Emerging Technologies and of the newly renamed School of Business & Technology. The institute, currently housed in Craig-Lee Hall, says the new building will provide more cyber ranges and labs and a security operations center.
The project was Question 2 on Rhode Island's 2024 bond ballot, and completion is expected in 2028.
