Beta Technologies' Expansion Around Burlington Airport Draws Resident Concern After $1 Billion IPO

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 · States · GSM News

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Chittenden County, Vermont — Electric aviation company Beta Technologies has been expanding rapidly around Burlington International Airport, spending about $22.6 million over the past year on at least 13 properties, the Vermont news outlet Seven Days reported on October 28, and some local residents have raised concerns about the build-out.

A master plan would more than double the company's local footprint to roughly 100 acres over a decade in South Burlington — a plan local residents have nicknamed "Betaville" — but it still needs approval from the city's Development Review Board. The growth follows the company's November 2025 initial public offering, which raised about $1 billion.

Beta, founded and led by CEO Kyle Clark and headquartered in South Burlington, develops electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and charging technology. The company plans to double its local workforce, adding roughly 1,000 employees by the middle of next year.
