CHEYENNE, Laramie County, Wyoming — Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources announced on October 28 that a comprehensively updated set of rules for the state park system has been adopted and will take effect January 1, 2027 — the first full update in decades. The revised rules trim the rulebook from 17 pages to 12.

The process began in January 2026 with a notice of intent and a public comment period running through February 2026 before the rules were finalized. The rules cover camping, permits, pets, trails, boating, fishing and visitor conduct across the park system.

On drones, the new rules state that operating a drone in a state park requires prior written permission from the park superintendent.
