Johnny Cash Bronze Statue Placed at North Little Rock Music Legends Pavilion in the Early Hours of October 27; Unveiling Set for October 30

A key step in North Little Rock's new music legends pavilion in Argenta Plaza came in the early hours of October 27, when an 8-foot bronze statue of Johnny Cash was lifted by crane onto its base. The statue is an exact replica of the Cash statue that represents Arkansas in the U.S. Capitol; sculptor Kevin Kresse was on site with the crew to position and secure it.
The pavilion is set for a grand opening ceremony on Friday, October 30, with the Cash statue serving as the marker on the west side, facing Main Street. Kresse said the outdoor setting is one of his favorite vantage points compared with the original leaning against a column in the Capitol, and that the moon and sunrise appearing in the sky at the same time made the moment especially memorable.
Crews then brought out six bronze busts by Kresse, honoring Glen Campbell, Al Green, Levon Helm, Louis Jordan, Florence Price and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Each bust bears the musician's name and life dates on the back, along with an outline of Arkansas marking their hometown.
The pavilion will ultimately hold 21 sculptures honoring 20 musicians and music industry executive Al Bell, whose work shaped rock, blues, gospel, country, soul, classical and other styles of American music. Interpretive plaques are also being installed.
