Canton, Georgia Police Announce Arrests on October 27 in Cherokee High School Shooting Plot: 3 Arrested, Guns and Ammunition Seized, No Ongoing Threat

Police in Canton, Cherokee County, Georgia, announced on October 27 that three people have been arrested for allegedly plotting a shooting at Cherokee High School in the city, including two juveniles.
The Canton Police Department said the investigation began on October 19, after the FBI discovered threatening social media posts and alerted law enforcement and Cherokee County school district police. Officers identified a Canton suspect linked to the online threats, a juvenile who had previously attended Cherokee High School; the teen was arrested on October 20 on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and disrupting school operations, and the teen's name and age were not released.
Police then identified two more suspects: a 17-year-old from Metter, Georgia, and 21-year-old Michael Brandon Terry of Chatsworth, California, who was arrested on October 23 by the FBI and Los Angeles police and is awaiting transport back to Georgia. Both face conspiracy to commit murder charges. Investigators seized firearms, ammunition and electronic devices.
Canton police said they have found no ongoing threat to Cherokee High School or other schools in the district, and urged parents to teach their children the importance of reporting threats promptly. An attorney for the 17-year-old suspect declined to comment on October 28; whether Terry has an attorney was not clear.
