Wichita State Women's Basketball Hosts Newman in October 28 Exhibition; Transfer Vincent Looks to Take on a Bigger Role

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Wichita State University women's basketball team opened its preseason on October 28 with an exhibition game against Newman University at Koch Arena in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. Junior Mariah Vincent is a name to watch in the matchup, praised by teammates and coaches for her defensive intensity, versatility across positions and relentless work ethic in practice.

Vincent previously played at the University of Missouri, where she missed her freshman season with a knee injury. After transferring, she hopes to take on a bigger role under head coach Terry Nooner and eventually make her way to the professional game. Last season she appeared in 26 games, averaging 1.4 points and 1.4 rebounds — modest numbers, but the coaching staff values her defensive commitment and all-around game.

The exhibition is a chance for the team to test rotations and evaluate newcomers. Whether Vincent can turn her practice intensity into consistent on-court production will determine her place in the rotation this season. The regular season opens on November 2 on the road at Kansas State, and the exhibition performance will inform the lineup for that opener.

For Wichita State, the goal this season is to find more reliable scoring while keeping its defensive toughness, and Vincent's development is part of that equation.
